Alpha-Purify head of global sales Berenika Bond is looking forward to visiting SMM in Hamburg, Germany, from 4-7 September to network with leading figures in the marine industry and spread the word about the company’s medium-pressure UV disinfection lamps and UV system accessories.
Alpha-Purify was launched at the end of 2017 by leading medium-pressure UV lamp manufacturer Alpha-Cure to focus entirely on the UV disinfection market.
SMM offers the chance to network with a unique blend of industry, scientists, government representatives and more, and Bond is looking forward to the opportunity to speak to those involved with ballast water treatment technologies, in particular those utilising UV disinfection.
Ballast water treatment technology is sure to be at the forefront of discussions at SMM, following the implementation of Ballast Water Convention (BWC) regulations in September 2017 that were set out by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in 2004 to govern the control and management of ship’s ballast water and sediments.
The BWC requires all sea-going ships greater than 400gt and using ballast water to manage their ballast water and sediments to a certain standard, according to a ship-specific ballast water management plan. The ships will have to carry a record book detailing their plan, and an international ballast water management certificate.
UV disinfection is a safe and chemical-free method of treating ballast water, which not only ensures that the water is discharged with any harmful organisms and invasive marine species rendered harmless, but also that it is free for harmful chemical by-products. As a result, UV disinfection is being adopted by ship owners around the world, and Alpha-Purify is proud to work with leading OEMs and end users to provide medium-pressure UV lamps for ballast water treatment systems. Alpha-Purify also manufactures replacement lamps, power supplies, O-rings and quartz sleeves for a range of existing UV systems.
Bond comments: “SMM in Hamburg is the most important event in the maritime industry calendar. It’s a perfect stage for gathering market intelligence, networking, and negotiating business deals. I look forward to listening to some of the biggest names in the maritime industry, especially regarding current hot topic that is ballast water management. It’s also great opportunity for me to meet with our existing and potential customers involved with ballast water treatment systems.”
