As a Hamburg-based family-owned business, Martechnic will be taking part in the world’s leading maritime industry trade fair SMM 2024 and exhibiting at Hall A1, Stand 432.

The exhibition will be held from 3-6 September and gather various stakeholders and visitors across the global maritime community from over 120 countries. The participants will be provided with a unique platform to present state of the art technologies and innovative projects, exchange business ideas, and establish cooperation and partnerships. Different high-profile conferences on open, free of charge stages directly in the halls will serve as a point for discussion about the current challenges and opportunities in the maritime sector.

SMM 2024 is focusing on the topics of decarbonisation and the sustainable development of the shipping industry. Smart and efficient technology solutions that can help to tackle the challenging issues are particularly important.

Martechnic will be showcasing its brand new, patent pending test device ‘MT COOLANT CHECK’, developed for regular on-board engine coolant analysis in the global shipping sector and beyond. The key difference between the innovative testing equipment and all other chemical-based test kits is that the engine coolant quality and its anti-corrosion effect can now be assessed non-chemically and sustainably in an environmentally-friendly way.

The ‘MT COOLANT CHECK’ utilises just one single test of a small amount of coolant sample by means of the electrotechnical apparatus, with constant (corrosion resistant) and working/changeable (corrosion-prone) electrodes in a simulated engine cooling system. No chemicals are required at all.  All of the evaluation is carried out fully automatically, delivering results in just 15 minutes.

By offering precise and timely maintenance recommendations, the test device helps to avoid unnecessary coolant changes and wastage.

The ‘MT COOLANT CHECK’ can be used for testing different coolant formulations, regardless of the coolant additive composition/specific manufacturer. The electrodes are easily recyclable, with no shelf-life limitations, and contribute to waste reduction, making the solution not only environmentally friendly but also cost-effective for ship operators.

Another important topic that Martechnic will address is the usage of sustainable biofuels for marine shipping to minimise the environmental impact, as well as the problematic issues of biofuel properties and contaminants. As a leading expert in oil quality management, Martechnic is currently researching and testing different biofuel blends to determine key chemical parameters under specific fuel storage and operating conditions. The application of the company’s testing equipment might be helpful in on-board biofuel blends handling and management measures.

Martechnic will be organising the ‘Biofuel Think Tank’ at its exhibition stand and will be happy to collaborate on biofuel research and testing.

We are looking forward to meeting the trade fair exhibitors and visitors at our stand!
