The Hellenic Maritime Forum took place in Athens on 19-20 November 2024. It was a two-day, high-level event that gathered maritime industry decision makers from various sectors, including shipowners, ship managers, shipbuilders, shipyards, ports, service providers, technology companies, regulators, government bodies, associations, classification societies, and others. At the Hellenic Maritime Forum, Fire Security won the prestigious HSEQ award.
The high-level event served as a platform for industry leaders to engage in discussions about critical challenges impacting the maritime industry.
A prominent topic was the safety and well-being of seafarers. In this respect, Fire Security presented an excellent paper on enhancing cable resilience on ships. Cables are the nerve system of any modern facility; without electrical cables, even the most critical emergency systems will not work, let alone normal ship services.
As such, protection cables against fires, UV, and chemicals in their respective high-risk areas are a focus area.
The insurers’ statistics show that there is a major ship fire every day, and in every one of these undesirable events, seafarers are exposed to danger, including crew and sometimes passengers.
These were probably the considerations behind awarding Fire Security the HSEQ award at the Hellenic Maritime Forum.
