BSS Metallbau-Schiffsausbau is a medium-sized, family-owned metal fabrication company that has constructed balconies, balcony doors, public stairways, toilets and spas. It has been trading for 40 years, and has over 130 skilled employees and more than 29 years of experience working with various prestigious shipyards.
Since 1998, it has developed, manufactured and installed balcony sliding doors, balcony dividers and balustrades for new Aida, NCL, RCCL, CCL and Star Cruise cruise ships at Meyer Werft shipyard.
Aluminium balcony tilt and slide doors
BSS’ aluminium balcony tilt and slide doors are of special construction with an externally running sliding-door leaf. In each position, the door leaf can be operated by a rotating handle, operational inside and outside the cabin suite. Support-mounted rollers on top of the door leaf operate it easily.
A magnetic contact seal and special connecting profiles guarantee optimal use of the air conditioning in the cabin suite. The doors will be tension-free, mounted and sealed to the hull of the ship, and conform to the fire protection requirements. Insulating glass conforms to DIN standard 614, and units with a maximum thickness of 40mm can be installed.
Various options are available including barrier-free sliding doors, fixed glazing panels and a three-part construction (central leaf). Almost 3,600 doors have been constructed since 2007 for the Aida shipping company, with 4,800 doors to follow by 2012, guaranteeing a technically well-engineered, high-quality system.
Aluminium balcony-divider doors
Aluminium balcony-divider doors are specially constructed low-maintenance swing door dividers without a frame. They can be opened from both sides by means of a special key that enables cleaning of the balconies from the outside.
Aluminium, glass or stainless-steel balcony balustrades
Special-construction security glazed balcony balustrades are glazed continuously at the handrail and base of the balcony, without the need of aluminium or stainless-steel vertical balustrades supports. The glazed panels meet DIN614 standards.
External revolving doors
BSS offers external single-leaf or double-leaf aluminium revolving doors, for use as access or emergency doors.
Modular balconies
BSS provides the facility to install completely pre-fabricated modular balconies at any time during a ship’s the construction. This trend-setting development is made possible by means of special fastening elements that are specially developed in-house by BSS and the Meyer Werft shipyard.
BSS was honoured with the Partner of the Year 2007 award from the Meyer Werft shipbuilding yard.
