Silver Nova is a new Evolution series cruise ship currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. It will be operated by Silversea Cruises (Silversea), a luxury cruise line based in Monaco.
Silversea is part of Royal Caribbean Group, a global cruise holding company based in the US.
Silver Nova will be the 11th ship in the Silversea fleet. The steel-cutting ceremony for the cruise ship was held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in November 2021. The ship is expected to be delivered in Summer 2023 and is scheduled to sail on its maiden voyage in January 2024.
Design and features
Silver Nova will have a length of 244.2m, beam of 29.6m and gross tonnage of 54,700t. It will have 11 decks and be able to accommodate 728 guests as well as 556 crew.
The vessel will feature an entirely new, asymmetrical design, which will be a first for the cruise line. The design will feature all-new outdoor venues, including a reimagined pool deck.
As well as being built as an environment-friendly ship through carbon-neutral construction, the vessel will use hybrid power sources with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its main fuel, which will be complemented by fuel cells and batteries.
It is expected to be the first ship in the cruise industry to achieve local emission-free operation while at port by using an onshore energy supply and shutting down main power generation systems.
Silver Nova will also feature a micro auto gasification system to reduce on-board waste volume.
Other sustainability features will include a waste heat recovery system, and a hydrodynamic hull and propulsion design, which will improve the energy efficiency of the ship.
The vessel will be able to achieve an average speed of 19.4k.
Accommodation on board Silver Nova
Silver Nova will offer accommodation across 13 different suite categories, with a private veranda for each suite.
The Otium Suite, which will be located on decks six and seven in the premium aft corner position, is among the newest and best suites offered by Silversea across its range of suites. It will offer an unprecedented 270° view.
Each Otium Suite will provide 123m² (1,324ft²) of space, including a 40m² (431ft²) balcony, complete with a whirlpool. The suites will feature a spacious living room area, luxurious walk-in wardrobe, personal safe and separate bedroom. Its bathroom will feature a whirlpool and walk-in shower.
Located on deck seven in the mid-ship section, the Owner’s Suites will come with either one or two bedrooms. Each one-bedroom suite will occupy 98m² (1,055ft²), including a 16m² (172ft²) balcony, while the double-bedroom suites will have a total area of 131m² (1,410ft²). They will feature a living room and luxurious bathrooms with double vanity, whirlpool and walk-in shower.
The Grand Suite will be situated in the front section of the ship on deck seven. It will offer one of the most luxurious and spacious suites on board Silver Nova.
The Master Suites will be located in the premium aft corner position. Each suite in the category will provide a total space ranging between 67m² (721ft²) and 77m² (826ft²), including a balcony. The living room and bedroom area will be surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glazing, which will offer a 270° view of destinations.
Each Signature Suite will offer a space of 65m² (700ft²), including a 16m² (172ft²) balcony. They will feature a large dining area, living room with sitting area, and separate bedroom.
The Silver Suite will feature an innovative design layout, which will provide full sea views from the living room and bedroom. It will feature a spacious living area and separate dining area.
The Junior Grand Suite located in the top bow position will offer a total space ranging between 54m² (581ft²) and 58m² (624ft²), including a balcony.
The remaining suite categories include Premium Medallion, Medallion, Premium Veranda, Deluxe Veranda, Superior Veranda and Classic Veranda.
Dining and bar venues
Silver Nova will feature eight dining venues. The La Terrazza, with a seating capacity of 340 guests, will be the ship’s largest restaurant. Located on deck four, it will feature a vibrant colour palette with floor-to-ceiling windows and a large outdoor terrace. It will serve Italian cuisine, including pasta, antipasto, risotto, ragu and tiramisu.
The ship’s second-largest restaurant, the Atlantide, will be located on deck three and accommodate 270 guests.
The La Dame restaurant, Silversea’s signature French restaurant, will be located on deck four and have a seating capacity of 70 diners.
Silver Nova will also feature the S.A.L.T. Kitchen, which will offer destination-inspired menus with recipes specific to visited ports as well as the Voyage menu, inspired by the best flavours of the voyage. It will be designed with high ceilings and large windows to create openness.
The Japanese-inspired Kaiseki on deck four will seat 40 and serve Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Korean and Chinese cuisines. Its entrance will be designed as a symbolic gateway to Japan.
The Arts Café will offer guests a cultural setting where they can eat, drink and socialise while reading about art and artists. It will offer a selection of healthy snacks and smoothies, as well as hot and cold drinks, juices, pastries and sandwiches.
Spanning 141m² (1,517ft²), the Silver Note will allow guests to enjoy food and live performances by jazz bands and soul singers. It will also feature a bar area with a fresh design.
The Dusk Bar on deck ten will be designed as an open-air sky bar serving food and drinks. It will provide panoramic views from the stern of the ship.
The ship’s second food and drinks venue, called the Marquee, will offer an al fresco dining experience for up to 220 guests. The Marquee will feature The Grill and Spaccanapoli restaurants.
Entertainment areas
Encompassing decks 10 and 11, the pool deck will feature the largest pool in the fleet. The upper-level sun deck will offer a quiet place to relax and enjoy views.
The Silver Nova pool deck will also feature the Cliff Whirlpool, an infinity edge, glass-fronted whirlpool.
Silver Nova’s itinerary
Silver Nova is expected to embark on its maiden voyage, named Silversea’s Grand Voyage South America 2024, on 4 January 2024.
The 71-day Grand Voyage will explore 38 destinations across 18 countries in Central and South America. It will circumnavigate Latin America and travel along the Amazon River to Manaus, Brazil. The ship will make a maiden call in Ilhabela, Brazil, as well as explore Ushuaia, Argentina, at the southernmost tip of South America.
Silver Nova will have port calls in Lima, Peru; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during its maiden voyage. It will also take guests to the Eastern Caribbean, calling in Spanish Town, Jamaica; Castries, Saint Lucia; and Bequia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, before arriving in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, US, on 15 March 2024.
