The YS 5009 range of yacht support vessels are being offered by Damen Shipyards Group and AMELS to meet the requirements of superyacht owners.
The first vessel in the YS 5009 range, NEW FRONTIERS, was launched by Damen in July 2017. It is scheduled to be delivered in September 2017.
YS 5009 design and features
Based on the Damen Sea Axe bow design, the YS 5009 features a revolutionary hull shape and offers enhanced motion behaviour and lower resistance through water. The updated design can be figured to support diving, sailing and helicopter operations.
With its reduced draught, the ship’s hull enables operation in shallow waters and reduces fuel consumption by 20%, resulting in lower emissions.
The command centre is equipped with sophisticated navigation and communication systems to manage navigation and helicopter operations.
The yacht support vessel has an overall length of 55.3m, moulded beam of 9m, draught of 2.65m and gross tonnage 465t. The vessel can carry 230,000l of fuel, 30,000l of fresh water and approximately 300t of cargo.
Deck equipment and systems on the yacht support vehicle
Offering a large free deck area of 225m², the vessel can be equipped with knuckle-boom deck cranes with capacities of 12t and 6t and outreaches of 5m and 11.5m, respectively. The deck is mounted with an A-frame installation to launch and recover submersibles. It also features container twist locks for modular gear.
The adventure centre at the stern can house a large dive store, which can be accessed from the 18m² swim platform, and provides a range of diving activities, including recreational and technical dives, submersible declines, scientific research and exploration.
The store can accommodate 12m-long dive tenders, dive compressors and Nitrox facilities, a certified decompression chamber, a dynamic positioning (DP) system, and a submersible hangar with dive control room. It also offers accommodation for a dive-master and submersible pilots.
The deck can also accommodate fast tenders, spare parts, rigging and extra sail gear, as well as a workshop for composite, wood and metal repairs. It also features container logistics and technical spaces.
Flight deck
The YS 5009 vessel features a LY3-compliant helicopter deck to accommodate a single helicopter with a maximum take-off weight of 3.7t. It is optionally equipped with an all-weather hangar to store the embarked helicopter.
The hangar can be fitted with telescopic sliding doors to maximise free deck space. It can also be equipped with a forward section to support the accommodation of a submersible or an automobile on the deck.
Accommodation aboard YS 5009
The vessel offers accommodation for up to 20 personnel, including extra staff, security, pilots and dive guides. The owner and guests are accommodated in the owner suite and three other suites on the main deck.
The vessel also features a 30m² lounge and dining space, as well as a 50m² sun deck. The accommodation spaces offer low noise and vibrations to enhance crew comfort.
The crew is provided with a mess, a pantry, and a washroom with shower and water closet facilities. The layout of the main deck can be customised to include cabins, offices, gym, workshops, laundry and hospital based on the requirements.
Propulsion
The yacht support vessel is equipped with four Caterpillar 3512C TA high-speed diesel engines and two 75kW bow thrusters.
Each engine develops a power output of 1,118bkW. The vessel can sail at a maximum speed of 22k and attain a maximum range of 5,000nmi at a cruise speed of 16k.
