The Celebrity Apex cruise ship is the second edge-class cruise ship under development for Celebrity Cruises.
It is a sister ship to Celebrity Edge, which entered service in December 2018. Celebrity Cruises placed an order with Chantiers de l’Atlantique (formerly STX France) for the construction of the Celebrity Apex cruise ship in December 2014. The first steel was cut for the ship in July 2018.
Scheduled to be delivered and christened in March 2020, the cruise ship will embark on its maiden voyage from Southampton, in April 2020.
Celebrity Apex design and features
The ship is designed in the modern iconic architecture style. The vessel will retain the features and design of the Edge series.
The cruise ship will measure 306m long and 39m wide and will have a gross registered tonnage of 129,500t. It can carry 2,900 passengers and 1,320 crew members.
Staterooms aboard Celebrity Apex
Celebrity Apex will feature 1,467 staterooms, carrying 2,910 guests at double occupancy. The cruise ship will include Staterooms with Infinite Balcony and twin level Edge Villas with outdoor plunge pools.
Other stateroom categories will include Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda, and Solstice Veranda Staterooms. The standard-sized staterooms aboard the ship will feature cashmere mattresses.
The Edge Stateroom will be equipped with in-room automation and personalised touch screen settings for adjustment of lighting and temperature. The rooms will be 23% larger than standard staterooms.
Dining venues
The ship will feature four main restaurants, namely Cyprus, Tuscan, Cosmopolitan and Normandie. The other restaurants on the ship will include Magic Carpet, Rooftop Garden Grill, Raw on 5 and Fine Cut Steakhouse.
The cruise ship will offer new delicacies from Michelin-starred Chef Cornelius Gallagher. Le Grand Bistro will provide a new 3D digital animation dining experience, while Craft Social aboard the ship will provide casual cuisine and craft beers.
The ship will feature food and beverage venues such as Grand Plaza Café, Martini Bar, Café al Bacio, the Retreat Sundeck, Lumina at the Retreat, and the Retreat Lounge.
Entertainment and wellness facilities on Celebrity Apex
The Celebrity Apex cruise ship will include American Ballet Theatre equipped with a 23ft tall 4K LED screen, a new 28ft tall circular scrim and eight Panasonic 20K laser projectors for the creation of a 360-degree wrap-around picture.
The Club and Evenings of Wonder at Eden will provide evening entertainment. The ship will host new production shows such as Rockumentary, Tree of Life, and Crystalize.
The Rockumentary will provide classic rock moments for the visitors on the ship. The Tree of Life will provide the guests with an illuminating experience through the changing seasons of the tree. Crystalize will offer performances through laser projections, light and custom video content.
The spa aboard the ship will house the SEA Thermal Suite and will offer 120 soothing treatments and therapies. The ship will provide hair treatments at Kérastase Institute and barber services at the barbershop. It will also offer Camp at Sea S.T.E.M experiences and provide new educational coding programs.
The cruise ship will offer F45 Training, Destination Wellness programme and a new Woman in Wellness well-being programme. The fitness centres at the ship will offer Technogym weight machines, cardio equipment and Peloton high-tech cycles.
Celebrity Apex propulsion
Celebrity Apex will be powered by five main engines, including two Wärtsilä 8L46F, two Wärtsilä 12V46F and one Wärtsilä 12V32E. Propulsion power will be provided by two ABB Azipod units and four Brunvoll FU115 tunnel thrusters.
Itineraries of Celebrity Apex cruise ship
The Celebrity Apex cruise ship will embark on its maiden voyage with a four-night taster cruise on 1 April 2020. It will offer a mini-season of five sailings to European destinations, including the Norwegian Fjords and the northern coasts of Spain and Portugal.
The ship will also embark on its ten-night Capital Cities Cruise covering Paris, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Oslo. The ship will then move to Fort Lauderdale for Carribean sailings during the winter season.
