The Carnival Magic is the second cruise ship in Carnival Cruise Lines’ Dream class cruise ships.
The 130,000t ship was built by Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri at its Monfalcone yard in Italy. Its keel was laid in January 2010, and it was launched in August 2010.

The ship was delivered to Carnival Cruise Lines in April 2011. It is the sister ship of the Carnival Dream, which entered service in September 2009.
The Carnival Magic cruise ship was renovated in February 2016 to add new dining areas and bar venues.
Carnival Magic technical specifications
The Carnival Magic is 305.6m long and 37m wide, while the length between perpendiculars is 269.2m. The ship is capable of cruising at a speed of 22.5kt.
The ship has 1,845 passenger cabins and 746 crew cabins, providing a total passenger capacity of more than 6,000. It is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system.
Carnival Magic construction
Carnival Magic was constructed in sections between August 2009 and August 2010. During the dry-dock period, stern installation, funnel construction, midship construction and bow installation were completed.
The ship was wet-docked in September and October 2010 to load stationary and cargo.
Cruise ship staterooms
The ship offers a range of accommodation categories. Balcony staterooms include the Balcony, the Cloud 9 Spa Balcony, the Cloud 9 Spa Ocean View, the Cloud 9 Spa Suite, the Cove Balcony and the Premium Vista Balcony.
Inside staterooms include Interior, Interior Upper/Lower and the Cloud 9 Spa Interior stateroom. Oceanview rooms include the Deluxe Ocean View and the Ocean View stateroom. Suite and Grand Suite room categories are also available.
Staterooms feature the Carnival comfort bed and a flatscreen TV. Deluxe Oceanview staterooms have a bathroom with a shower, a separate washroom sink and a junior tub.
Cloud 9 Spa rooms offer exclusive access to spa amenities. The family cabins can accommodate up to five passengers. The Cove balconies, located on the lower riviera deck offer an alternative to the larger balcony staterooms. These balconies feature small patios with ocean views.
Carnival Magic dining facilities
The cruise ship has formal and casual dining areas, including two double-level dining rooms, a poolside restaurant, a steakhouse and a sushi bar. The ship also includes the Cucina del Capitano, a family-friendly Italian restaurant.
Carnival Magic includes SkyCourse, a suspended ropes course with exclusive views of the sea 150ft below. The ship also houses Ocean Plaza, an indoor/outdoor dining and entertainment promenade.
Cruise ship entertainment facilities
The Carnival Magic has a range of entertainment venues including the Serenity, an adults-only area located on top of the ship, and the auditorium on deck three, which hosts entertainment shows.
Club O2 is a teens-only area that offers movies, music, video games and karaoke. Camp Carnival offers a wide range of activities designed for children aged two to 11 years. Circle C is a dedicated area for kids between 12 and 14, and hosts a variety of activities.
The ship has two freshwater pools. The aft pool features whirlpools, while the main pool has a theatre. A miniature golf course and an expansive WaterWorks aqua park with multiple water slides are located on deck 12.
Wi-Fi connectivity is provided across the ship. The Cloud 9 Spa occupies 23,750ft² and features a thalassotherapy pool, a thermal suite, an elaborate spa and a gymnasium.
Other facilities include a casino, a conference room, an internet cafe, a library, an art gallery and shops.
Carnival Magic cruise ship renovation
The Carnival Magic cruise ship renovation in 2016 added a poolside venue named Guy’s Burger Joint, the RedFrog rum bar, the Blue Iguana tequila bar, Pizzeria del Capitano and the Alchemy Bar. It also featured a SportSquare outdoor recreation area and a new BBQ venue named Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse.
In May 2021, the ship underwent a dry-dock period in Marseilles, France during which she received a new red, white and blue hull design showcasing the trademark of the Carnival Cruise Line fleet.
The new livery was inspired by Carnival’s Mardi Gras, which is designed to pay homage to maritime tradition and patriotic colours. The ship received additional enhancements during the dry-dock, including an expanded casino and improved finishes for the WaterWorks aqua park and pools.
