Carnival Dream – Cruise Liner

The Carnival Dream is one of Carnival's largest ships. The 130,000t vessel is also the largest cruise ship built in Italy and by Fincantieri. The vessel has 14 decks and can accommodate 3,646 passengers in 1,823 cabins.

The ship's estimated cost is $740m. Carnival Dream commenced her operations in September 2009 with an inaugural 12-day Grand Mediterranean cruise from Rome.

The Carnival Dream has 1,145 outside cabins. The vessel features twin water parks with multiple slides.

The Carnival Dream is able to achieve a speed of 22.5kt. The vessel is fitted with six Wärtsilä 12V46 medium-speed engines.

Carnival Corporation is the world’s largest cruise operator with a portfolio of 12 cruise brands and a total of 100 vessels. The company ordered two of its largest ships from Fincantieri Navali in Italy. The Carnival Dream was delivered in September 2009 while the Carnival Magic was delivered in April 2011. The third sister-ship, Carnival Breeze, was ordered in December 2009 and is expected to be delivered in June 2012.

The keel for Carnival Dream was laid in February 2008. She was launched in October 2008 in Monfalcone, Italy. Sea trials were performed in July 2009 in the Adriatic Sea.

The 130,000t Carnival Dream features a range of facilities not seen before in the fleet such as a dining and entertainment complex called the Piazza, four ‘scenic’ whirlpools, a ½ mile promenade, the largest Carnival WaterWorks park with multiple slides and the line’s largest ever spa at 23,000ft². The estimated cost of the vessel was $740m.

Technical

The Carnival Dream is 306m (1,004ft) long with a beam of 37m (121.3ft). Length between perpendiculars is 269.2m. She has 14 decks and can accommodate 3,646 passengers in 1,823 cabins.

There are 1,145 outside cabins, each with a private terrace. The ship has 1,367 crew members. The ship is powered by a diesel-electric azipod propulsion system, allowing a cruising speed of 22.5k.

Facilities

The Piazza is a dining and entertainment complex that features a wide variety of cuisine, a multi-media café with high-speed internet connection, a bandstand for live music, and a dance floor. A curved glass wall partitions the room, and both indoor and outdoor seating is available.

A ½ mile promenade is part of the extended deck space and features four ‘scenic Jacuzzis’ extending over the ship’s beam to provide ocean views.

The ship also offers a tropical, resort-style main pool with a Seaside Theatre; giant LED screen; nine-hole golf course covering two decks; outdoor café; and a Serenity adults-only retreat. The ship’s dance club allows access to outside decks during good weather.

Staterooms

The Carnival Dream offers a range of stateroom categories including interior staterooms, ocean-view rooms, deluxe ocean rooms, cove balcony rooms, balcony rooms, balcony cloud 9 spa rooms, balcony suites and penthouse suites.

The Deluxe ocean-view staterooms have a full bathroom with shower, plus a separate washroom sink and junior tub.

Cove Balconies are a new category of stateroom, located on the lower Riviera Deck, which are close to the waterline and offer smaller terraces with excellent ocean views as an alternative to larger balcony staterooms.

Propulsion

The Carnival Dream is powered by a diesel electric propulsion system. The vessel is fitted with six Wärtsilä 12V46 medium-speed engines developing a power output of 84,933HP. The propulsion system includes three bow thrusters, three stern thrusters and twin rudders.

Itinerary

The Carnival Dream began operations on 21 September 2009 with an inaugural 12-day Grand Mediterranean cruise from Rome (Civitavecchia).
