The industry’s first ‘Suite Ship’, Avalon Panorama was christened and launched in May 2011. The ship was built by the Den Breejen Shipyard for its client Avalon Waterways.
With the introduction of Avalon Panorama, Avalon Waterways now has nine luxury ships in Europe with an average age of less than three years. The line’s two more ships, Avalon Vista and Avalon Visionary, will be introduced in 2012.
Avalon Panorama design
Avalon Panorama was designed to provide enhanced passenger comfort and an indoor / outdoor living experience. It is fitted with Avalon’s proprietary Panorama SuiteSM design to maximise the river cruise experience.
The ship’s advanced design includes spacious public areas, two full decks of suite accommodation, panoramic windows in all public areas, enhanced soundproofing, designer lighting and no-smoking interiors.
The interiors are decorated with hand-finished surfaces, meticulous woodwork, and polished metal and glass. State-of-the-art navigational technologies are equipped.
Staterooms and accommodation
The 443ft long ship can accommodate 166 passengers and 47 crew members. It has been built with two full decks of suites, the first such set up in the industry.
Apart from 17 Avalon Deluxe Staterooms, the ship features 66 newly designed Panorama Suites located on the top two decks. Deluxe Staterooms have 172ft² of living space while Panorama Suites have 200ft² of living space. The staterooms are 30% larger than any other river cruise operating in Europe.
The living area of each suite is furnished with a large seating area that is located adjacent to a wall-to-wall panoramic window. This floor-to-ceiling window can be opened as wide as 11″x7″. When opened, this tall window transforms the entire suite into an open-air balcony, offering fresh air and epic views in all weather conditions.
The ship’s bed configuration includes orthopaedic mattresses and pillows of passenger’s choice, European-style duvets, high-comfort mattress covers, Egyptian super-combed cotton linens and extra blankets.
All suites have a fully equipped, spacious designer bathroom with premium L’Occitane bathroom amenities.
Stateroom amenities include a flat screen satellite TV with film channels & radio, comfortable hotel-style beds, a nightly turn-down service, bedside tables with reading lamps, spacious three-door wardrobes with shelves for ample storage, a writing desk and dressing table with mirror, easy under-bed luggage storage, an in-room safe, an alarm clock, Wi-Fi access, a direct-dial telephone, continental breakfast and drinks service, and a well stocked mini bar with complimentary bottled water.
Panorama Suites are available in three categories – Category A, Category B and Category C. All these suites are built in 200ft² of area and have Avalon Deluxe beds with premium mattress covers.
Deluxe staterooms are built over 200ft², while Royal Suites occupy 300ft².
