Finnish maritime manufacturer Wärtsilä is set to place its Cargo Handling Systems (CHS) onboard four new medium-sized gas tankers for its client Purus, based in Singapore.
The new vessels feature a 45,000 m3 capacity and are set to gradually enter commercial operations by mid-2025.
The vessels are currently under construction at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD). The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yard by Q3 2024.
Patrick Ha, Sales Manager, Cargo Handling Systems, Wärtsilä Gas Solutions emphasised the close relationship between the manufacturer and the Korean dockyard.
Ha said: “This order further strengthens our position in the medium gas carrier market in Korea.
“We are delighted to continue our close relationship with HMD for this class of ships, and we are pleased to add Purus to our... references.”
According to Wärtsilä, the contract was signed in Q4 2023, following an order placed by HMD.
This agreement further expands the relationship between HMD and Wärtsilä. In October 2023 Wärtsilä received an order for the fuel supply systems for two midsize gas carriers (MGCs) being constructed at HMD.
Through this new order, Purus will bolster its medium gas carrier fleet to eight vessels. According to Purus, the four vessels carry an “ammonia ready” propulsion and will be joining its Marcella, Green Power and Green Energy vessels.
