Maritime energy trade flow analytics company Gas Vista has been bought by data analytics company SynMax, as it looks to capitalise on the success of its flagship LNG-focused Leviaton product.

Following the acquisition, SynMax will combine its proprietary data with Gas Vista’s real-time predictive analytics to strengthen the intelligent dark ship vessels, which have turned off their identification systems, according to insights offered by Leviaton.

SynMax CEO Brendan Moore said: “With the acquisition of Gas Vista, SynMax positions itself to combine our industry-leading energy and maritime intelligence technologies to disrupt the traditional ways governments and businesses visualise trade flows.”

Gas Vista was founded by Leslie Palti-Guzman and Dror Guzman, who combined Palti-Guzman's commodity expertise and Guzman’s background as a software entrepreneur with experience in machine learning and data analysis to build the company.

The Leviaton solution forecasts physical trade flows for its users, leveraging a diverse set of datasets and machine learning to predict information about maritime flows and enable customers to anticipate movements in their markets.

The timing of the acquisition is particularly notable as it comes at the same time as SynMax’s Maritime arm launches its new maritime domain awareness platform, Theia, which “employs data fusion to deliver unparalleled actionable intelligence around dark ships and their activities”.

Along with its datasets, SynMax also uses an AI, along with information from industry experts and data scientists, to deliver comprehensive, factual information about ongoing actions in the maritime world to "eliminate the need for predictions".

DP World’s CTO Pradeep Desai recently wrote for Ship Technology about the ways in which AI technology is transforming the maritime industry by automating processes and providing real-time insights into shipping operations.
