UK-based engineering company Equipmake has supplied a bespoke e-drivetrain system for Spirit Yachts and BAR Technologies’ fully electric yacht.

The Spirit BARTech25EF is a 35ft electric flyer with a top speed of 28 knots and is claimed to be the first fully electric yacht to have a 100 nautical miles fast-cruising range.

CEO Ian Foley described the vessel as the “perfect showcase” for his company’s technology and its use in the electric marine market: “On behalf of everyone at Equipmake, I’m proud we have played a key role with Spirit Yachts and BAR Technologies on this incredible electric flying boat, which truly sets new standards for long-range electric vessels.”

The fully electric drivetrain features an adapted version of the company’s lightweight HPM-400 motor, an HPI-450 IGBT inverter and a custom 120kWh battery pack.

BAR Technologies CEO John Cooper said: “We firmly believe that the future of this sector will be defined by developments in the sustainability and efficiency of vessels. We have been delighted to partner with Equipmake on its remarkable powertrain.

“Ian Foley and his team are true leaders in the field of electrification and share our ethos of lightweighting and competition-bred design and development. We look forward to exploring further opportunities to work together.”

The luxury yacht was launched in May and is constructed from a mix of titanium and cold-moulded wood with a carbon fibre reinforced shell.

According to Equipmake, the yacht could also mark the beginning of a further partnership with BAR Technologies, with the UK engineering company saying they will explore further opportunities to collaborate.
