Emirati logistics giant DP World has partnered with Maspion Group with plans for the construction of a new container terminal in Gresik, East Java.

The joint venture will be named DP World Maspion East Java, and operate a new international container port with a design capacity of up to three million TEU.

Alongside the terminal, the partnership will develop an integrated industrial and logistics park at 110 hectares, with scope for future expansion.

According to DP World, this partnership is set to strengthen business connections across Indonesia and enhance logistics capabilities in Gresik.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, CEO of DP World, emphasised the strategic location of the container facility.

Sulayem said: “We see significant potential in Indonesia as a major hub for global trade, and we hope to unlock further growth in the region through meaningful partnerships and investments that bring opportunities through greater trade connectivity for local businesses and communities.

“Our partnership with Maspion Group to build new infrastructure in Gresik will strengthen East Java’s position as a key trade and logistics gateway. It will also serve as a cornerstone in our strategy to expand our global ports and logistics network to offer our customers end-to-end solutions and boost supply chain resilience.”

This partnership extends the relationships between both parties that signed a $1.2bn port agreement in 2019, overseeing the first public-private partnership for the transportation sector in Indonesia.

Earlier this year, DP World extended its reach across Indonesia through operations to expand capacity at Indonesia’s Belawan New Container Terminal. The project is designed to boost economic growth across Indonesia.
