Denmark has launched a new green fuels alliance in India as it looks to boost collaborations on sustainable energy between the two countries. 

Led by the Danish Embassy and the Consulate General of Denmark in India, nine Danish organisations have already committed to the alliance which will work on advancing green fuels such as Green Hydrogen. 

Freddy Svane, Danish ambassador to India, said: “Danish companies bring skills to the green transition globally. Happy to see the special efforts through the Green Strategic Partnership to inspire India in her endeavours of greening its development. 

“The Green Fuels Alliance India is powering initiatives within the energy transition. May our joint contributions be significant and inspirational.” 

As part of the alliance’s efforts, which Denmark said were inspired by previous initiatives such as the India-Denmark Energy Partnership, it will include a steering committee of Danish businesses and an advisory board of industry experts 

Founding members of the alliance include Hydrogen Denmark, Umwelt Energy, and Danish shipping giant Maersk, which said India had excellent conditions for renewable energy production and could help improve the availability of green fuels. 

Additionally, CEO of Hydrogen Denmark Tejs Lausten Jensen said: “The alliance represents a powerful collaboration between nations, bridging expertise and resources to accelerate the adoption of the green energy solutions that is going to power the societies of tomorrow. 

“It is an essential topic, and not least one, where India and Denmark have a lot to gain from each other and as two global frontrunners not least has a lot to contribute to the global decarbonisation efforts.”

While many shipping companies have put sustainability at the forefront of their plans, the availability and price of alternative green fuels are still a sticking point for widespread adoption.
