Denmark-based maritime software company Coach Solutions has launched its first product leveraging data from parent company Kongsberg Digital since it received a ‘strategic investment’ from the business.
The Software as a Service (SaaS) company is using Kongsberg’s Vessel Insight to provide more accurate data on hull and propeller fouling as part of its advisory service and new Speed Percentage Analysis (SPA) product.
CEO Christian Råe Holm said: “Through our strong ties to the tramp shipping segments, we have seen that many owners are only now looking into high-frequency data logging so there are some first encounters and adoption issues.
“Using Kongsberg’s Vessel Insight provides a robust platform that integrates into the Coach system and makes this data easily available for analysis and action that can drive savings and avoid disputes.”
The new SPA tool, part of Coach’s Valid Performance solution, will gather auto-logged data from the Vessel Insight platform and combine it with noon report data to calculate the speed percentage and provide an overview of the vessel’s current performance compared with historical reports.
The addition of the data to Coach’s products strengthens the relationship between the software provider and its parent company, which bought Coach in 2020 just four years after it was spun off from Clipper Group.
The benefits of being under a company in the Kongsberg Group were also highlighted by Råe Holm when Ship Technology visited Coach Solutions headquarters in Copenhagen earlier this year.
He said: “For a company like us it is brilliant to have someone like them, because they are doing all the hard integration work and what they deliver to us is basically just one stream of data.”
“Before they did all that work, we would have to build integrations to a lot of different sources, and that’s not something we really want to spend our time on because it’s hard work and what we’re good at is making estimates and doing the calculations," Holm explained.
