Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced an expansion of its contract with Seacon, a paper and pulp supplier. The company’s warehousing space at the Port of Garston, on the river Mersey, has expanded 12-fold since it reestablished its northern base in 2022.

Seacon has now committed to eight years at Garston, where, according to ABP, it now holds “150,000ft² of prime port real estate”.

Since 1983, Seacon has specialised in port and terminal-based operations, distributing forest products such as paper.

The expansion at the Merseyside site has included the construction of three new warehouse sheds. These new construction projects have allowed the company to upscale operations within 12 months.

Seacon CEO Martin Phillips said: “ABP’s recent investment in the Port of Garston, as well as their ability to provide flexible solutions, has helped to facilitate our rapid expansion. The port provides an excellent multi-modal option for customers and we’re pleased to strengthen our partnership with the UK’s leading ports group.”

Sarah Williams, senior surveyor for Wales and short sea ports at ABP, added: "This expansion and lease extension highlights the strength of our partnership with Seacon and reinforces the Port of Garston's strategic location on the north bank of the Mersey, which offers the ideal gateway to the industrial heartlands of the North West of England."
