Global towage operator Svitzer, which is part of Maersk, has signed a time charter deal with FGEN LNG Corporation to deliver towage and other vessel support services.
As agreed, Svitzer will offer its services at FGEN LNG’s Interim Offshore Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal featuring a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) situated at the First Gen Clean Energy Complex in the Philippines.
Under the ten-year contract, the company will offer four new 75t bollard pull tugboats for supporting the FSRU and LNG carriers.
It will be responsible for berthing, un-berthing and navigation assistance.
In addition, Svitzer will deliver other services, such as fire-fighting, port and vessel security services, pilot and boarding party transfer, pollution control and fender management.
Svitzer managing director Nicolai Vinther Friis said: “This important contract adds a new country to the global Svitzer portfolio and expands our ability to provide safe and efficient towage and marine services support to more customers across the globe.”

First Gen chief commercial officer and executive vice-president Jon Russell said: “The provision of high-quality marine services will be vital to making the FGEN Project successful and our decision to select Svitzer came after a detailed evaluation of Svitzer’s technical capabilities and experience in this specialised activity as well as its commercial and contractual competitiveness.
“Svitzer has a track record of successful engagements in similar projects around the world, and throughout the process demonstrated a collaborative attitude, tailoring its offer to meet the specific needs of FGEN LNG.”
Last October, Turkish shipbuilding company Med Marine secured an order to deliver a new 23m tug for Svitzer’s German fleet.
