Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) has installed an “advanced communications system” for the Kochi Water Metro in Kerala, India.
STL said it successfully installed its Neox Unified Communications solution for the water taxi system – the first of its kind in India. The system allows “seamless” communication over the extensive network of ferries, jetties and control centres.
The solution is an internal and external communications tool, working via VHF radio, public announcement systems and internal telephony.
Instant messaging between boats, jetties and Kochi Water Metro’s Operations Control Centre will feed into a “dashboard” to assist and manage operations and maintenance across the network.
Kochi is a coastal community in the south-west of India, on the Arabian Sea. The Water Metro, which commenced service in 2021, connects 10 islands via 16 routes, with 38 terminals. It runs to a total of 78km, served by 78 battery-operated “E-Boats”.
STL India sales head Sanjay Sahani said: “STL’s Neox Unified Communication solution has played a significant role in implementing a world-class advanced communication system for Kochi Water Metro.
