Italian shipping group Scafi has taken delivery of a second multi-purpose tugboat, Titan, from Turkish tugboat builder Sanmar Shipyards.

Titan has joined its sister vessel at Rijeka, Croatia’s principal seaport. This delivery is part of a two-tug contract with Scafi for its Croatian subsidiary, Jadranski Pomorski Servis.

The Titan, formerly known as Bogacay LXXII during its construction in Turkiye, is now working alongside the Moretto, another tug from the same series.

Featuring an 80t bollard pull, Titan measures 24.4m in length overall (LOA), with a moulded beam of 12m, a moulded depth of at least 4.5m, and a navigational draft of approximately 5.45m.

Its design is said to ensure optimal efficiency in ship-handling duties for sea-going vessels and features a wide beam for enhanced stability.

The diesel-powered vessel can carry up to 77,900 litres of fuel oil and is equipped with advanced engines and larger twin Z-drives than similar-sized tugs.

The Bogacay class tugs are used for ship handling, as well as for coastal towing, escort, and other general purposes.

Sanmar also announced the delivery of a new Ice Class 1A tug to Finland-based operator Alfons Håkans.

Named AJAX, the tug will be deployed to work in the northern Baltic Sea to undertake tasks such as escort, ship assist, icebreaking and ice management and open sea towing.

The tug is based on Canadian naval architect Robert Allan’s TundRA 2600 design. It has a LOA of 25.8m, a moulded depth of 5.2m, and a navigational draft of 5.05m.
