Developer of energy technologies RIX Industries has introduced a mobile hydrogen generation system under its M2H2-Series of Methanol-to-Hydrogen power systems.
These systems will help in providing shipping industries and marine settings with green power.
The RIX M2H2-Series can produce hydrogen on-board and on-demand. This allows users to have a smaller and safer shipboard volume obligation, instead of deploying high-pressure compressed hydrogen solutions.
It also eliminates the need for keeping a store of cryogenic liquid hydrogen, which is costly and heavy.
In combination with fuel cells, the M2H2-Series systems generate power with renewable methanol and do not release any NOx, SOx or particulate matter.
RIX Industries chief sales officer Bryan Reid said: “While hydrogen power technology is globally recognised as critical to reducing pollution and climate change, rugged readymade systems that capitalise on this technology have been absent from the power landscape.

By GlobalData“Tapping into the convenience of methanol as a hydrogen carrier, our industry-leading mobile system produces hydrogen safely, efficiently and as needed – a sea change in hydrogen usability and competitive value for shipbuilders working to minimise their environmental impact.”
For producing hydrogen, RIX M2H2-Series systems have methanol fuel reforming technology.
The technology has obtained a licence from the developer of clean energy products Element 1 (dba e1).
The M2H2-Series systems are self-contained containerised power systems, incorporating methanol-to-hydrogen generation technology and PEM fuel cells.
This eco-friendly solution can be used for applications such as ship propulsion, reefer container power, auxiliary power systems and cold ironing.
In addition, the M2H2 power system can be extended to support 30kW to 120kW fuel cell solutions.
It can also be installed without retrofitting vessel infrastructure, thereby allowing the present diesel tanks to be used for stocking liquid methanol.
