
QatarEnergy has inaugurated four new conventional-size LNG vessels, marking a significant step in its fleet expansion programme.
Built at the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard and Hanwha Ocean Shipyard in South Korea, these vessels are part of a larger order of 128 ships, highlighting the largest shipbuilding initiative in the LNG shipping industry.
The newly launched vessels, named “Id’asah,” “Nuaijah,” “Umm Swayyah,” and “Lebrethah,” were introduced in separate ceremonies in Geoje.
QatarEnergy president and CEO and Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said: “This very special occasion highlights the growth of QatarEnergy’s strategic partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries and JP Morgan Asset Management’s Global Transportation Group.
“This event is not only a milestone in our journey, but also a celebration of our partnership and joint commitment to deliver cleaner energy to the world.”
The “Id’asah” was the first to be delivered by Samsung Heavy Industries, with Minister Al-Kaabi expressing gratitude to the shipowner, a subsidiary of JP Morgan Asset Management’s Global Transportation Group, and Samsung for their workmanship.

By GlobalDataThe second ceremony at Hanwha Ocean Shipyard saw the naming of “Nuaijah,” “Umm Swayyah,” and “Lebrethah.”
These vessels are the first to be delivered by Hanwha Ocean under this programme and will soon join QatarEnergy’s LNG fleet.
Al-Kaabi said: “This is a historic moment as these three LNG vessels prepare to set sail on their missions across the globe, providing a cleaner and more economic source of energy, and are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to achieve optimal fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.”
He extended thanks to the vessels’ owners, the Korean KGL Consortium members: Pan Ocean, H-Line Shipping, and SK Shipping.
The events were attended by senior executives from the shipyards, shipowner companies, representatives of the Korean government, and senior executives from QatarEnergy and QatarEnergy LNG.
