Royal Caribbean International’s cruise ship Voyager of the Seas has completed a month-long $80m revitalisation programme at the ship repair facility in Sembawang Shipyard, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine.
In March, Sembawang Shipyard signed a contract with RCL Cruises, a member of the Royal Caribbean Cruises group, to perform extensive revitalisation of the ship.

Following refurbishment, Voyager of the Seas now provides the FlowRider surf simulator and Virtual Balcony staterooms.
In addition, the ship will offer a 3D cinema, digital signage, a new Diamond Club for Crown and Anchor Society members along with new dining options, including Izumi Japanese cuisine, Giovanni’s Table Italian trattoria and Chops Grille steakhouse.
Currently, the vessel is on its way from Singapore to Sydney where it will be based for its 2014 to 2015 winter-spring season, Royal Caribbean said.
The ship will return to Singapore in April for a ten-night cruise to Tokyo calling at Nha Trang, Hong Kong, Taipei and Nagasaki.
This revitalisation project is claimed to be the largest of its kind to be completed in Singapore. The shipyard also performed the overhaul of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships Rhapsody of the Seas and Legend of the Seas in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Meanwhile, Metso secured a contract in September from Royal Caribbean Cruises to enhance the vessel-wide automation system of Voyager of the Seas.
Under the contract, Metso was responsible for upgrading the equipment to an enhanced Metso DNA automation system along with the new operator stations and process controllers.
