OSI Maritime Systems has secured a contract from Lockheed Martin to design the integrated bridge and navigation system for the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) new class of Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS).
The company will carry out the work at its Burnaby facility in Canada.
OSI Maritime Systems president and CEO Ken Kirkpatrick said: “This is a wonderful addition to the numerous Canadian programmes supported by OSI, which demonstrate our full range of logistics, services, manufacturing and technological expertise. We intend to engage more Canadian suppliers to support this important RCN programme.”
AOPS is a Canadian Government procurement project for the RCN, which will deliver six to eight naval ice-capable offshore patrol ships to conduct sovereignty and surveillance operations in Canada’s waters, including the Arctic.
Irving Shipbuilding, prime contractor for AOPS, is currently building the first ship that is due for delivery in 2018.
OSI, Irving Shipbuilding and Lockheed Martin are working with the federal government to find a best solution, while optimising benefits across the country under the Industrial and Regional Benefit programme.
