MAN Diesel & Turbo has revealed its new MAN SCR-HP high-pressure selective catalytic reduction system (SCR) for use in two-stroke engines, in collaboration with its licensee Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding.

MAN SCR-HP is available for two-stroke engines of all bore sizes and has been designed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) exhaust emissions through internal catalytic reaction, in accordance with the International maritime Organisation (IMO) Tier III requirements.

The SCR is smaller in size compared to traditional reactor systems and features specially developed honeycombs and honeycomb materials, as well as an integrated mixing unit

It was developed on the basis of MAN’s experience with its four-stroke engines, and is currently available in six frame-sizes, covering up to 25MW per reactor. The system also features the reactor’s control unit, which communicates with the engine-control system.

The MAN SCR-HP has already completed its approval certification and engine shop testing, which was conducted with input from Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding and the Japanese classification society ClassNK

Delivery of the first MAN SCR-HP system is expected to begin next year.
