Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) has secured an accreditation from the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) to carry out assessment of monitoring plans, and verification of emissions reports of maritime transport under MRV Regulation.

The newly granted ISO 14065 accreditation is an extension to LRQA’s existing accreditation to ISO 14065, and has also enabled the society to perform the assessment on various modes of maritime transport worldwide.

European Union’s (EU) MRV Regulation came into force in July 2015, and aims to regulate monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from shipping activities.

The guidelines will require ship owners and operators to possess and annually report verified CO2 emissions and related data for all vessels larger than 5,000t that are calling at any EU or EEA (Norway / Iceland) port from next January onwards.

LRQA announced in July that it has carried out verification work on Orient Overseas Container Line’s (OOCL) two container terminals, including Long Beach Container Terminal in the US, and Kaohsiung Container Terminal in Taiwan.

OOCL’s greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting in the two terminals was verified during the verification process.
