Societe de Transport Lagunaire (STL) has awarded a supplementary contract to Damen Shipyards Groupor eight Damen Pontoons 2404, which will be used for mooring and passenger transfer in the city of Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The 24m pontoons will help build four hop-on, hop-off ferry stations, with a number of onshore ticket offices.
Hutchison Port Holdings Trust and COSCO Shipping Ports have signed a strategic agreement to manage the operations of five terminals, including 16 berths in Kwai Tsing, Hong Kong.
The terminals are currently operated by Hongkong International Terminals (HIT), COSCO-HIT Terminals (Hong Kong) (CHT), and Asia Container Terminals (ACT).
Fincantieri, a shipbuilding company based in Italy, has contracted IBM to provide a hybrid Cloud solution, which will improve its operational efficiency in designing, building and deploying new ships, as well as help integrate its subsidiaries and new acquisitions.
IBM will supply its Cloud solution and update Fincantieri’s information technology (IT) infrastructure to connect with 13 distributed data centres of Fincantieri with IBM’s Cloud hub in Milan, as part of the contract.

To be built at the Sestri Ponente (Genoa) shipyard, the vessels are expected to be delivered between 2020 and 2022.
Dragados UK has secured a contract from Aberdeen Harbour Board to construct additional facilities at Nigg Bay to the south of the existing harbour in Scotland by 2020, as part of a £350m ($430m) expansion at Aberdeen Harbour.
The expansion, which is aimed at enabling Nigg Bay to handle more cruise and commercial vessels, will add 1,400m of quay and 125,000m² of lay-down area.
Wärtsilä has received a maintenance contract for two of MOL LNG Transport Europe’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The ten-year contract will help improve the operational safety and predictability of the carriers and reduce their operational costs.
Wärtsilä will provide scheduled engine maintenance, workshop services and online remote support for the two vessels as part of the contract.

With the aim of boosting the shipbuilding industry in the Middle East country, Iran’s Industrial Development and Renovation Organisation (IDRO) has signed a mutual co-operation agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering to form a joint venture (JV) company.
The JV will build a shipyard in Iran in collaboration with the South Korean company’s Okpo Shipyard as well as design and develop ships to expand the fleet of Iranian shipping companies.
Puglia Engineering, a ship repair company based in the US, has purchased BAE Systems’ San Francisco Ship Repair business.
The San Francisco shipyard features two floating dry docks, three berths and facilities to lift large cruise ships. It can perform alterations, maintenance and repair of a variety of vessels including cruise ships, military support vessels, trans-Alaska pipeline tankers, and cargo and container ships.
