UK-based engineering support services company Babcock International Group has partnered with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) to build a new gas supply vessel (GSV).
To be built using FGSV0 technology, the proposed 7,500m³ vessel will be used for liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelling of ships, including ferries, containers, cruise vessels and other shore-based gas consumers in the Baltic Sea.
Jointly developed by BSM and Babcock, the patent-pending FGSV0 technology will allow the delivery of LNG from the GSV into the receiving vessel with zero emissions to the environment during normal operations.
The Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea, will build the GSV, which is to be launched and delivered by next April and September respectively.
The keel-laying ceremony is expected to be held by next February, while cargo tanks of the GSV are scheduled to be delivered by next January.

By GlobalDataOnce completed, the GSV will enable its users to meet the International Maritime Organisation’s global cap of 0.5% on shipping-related sulphur emissions, which will be enforced from January 2020.
The GSV can be also deployed in the new emission control areas (ECAs) in the North Sea, Mediterranean, Baltic, the US Gulf and other areas.
