Switzerland-based MSC Cruises has launched MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, which is claimed to be the largest cruise terminal in the world, at PortMiami in Florida, US.
The terminal, which spans 492,678ft², is designed to process up to 36,000 passengers daily and introduces a fully biometric journey for guests, enhancing the embarkation process through digital identity verification.

It can accommodate three cruise ships at once and has 42 luggage screening machines.
The new terminal at PortMiami will accommodate ships from both MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys. It will host the naming ceremony for MSC Cruises’ latest flagship, the MSC World America, on 9 April, just before she embarks on her inaugural season in the Caribbean.
Guests can check in for their cruise online or via the MSC for Me app or the MSC Cruises website, allowing them to upload travel documents and receive boarding passes before arriving at the terminal.
Upon arrival, passengers can utilise the six-level parking garage, which offers more than 2,400 spaces, or opt for bus, taxi, or ride-share services, all of which can have direct access to the terminal entrance.
For those who have completed online check-in, luggage drop-off is facilitated through secure points in the parking garage.
The terminal features 18 biometric face pods for passport verification, expediting the check-in and security processes.
Following this, 20 security lanes ensure “efficient” screening for all guests. The terminal’s design incorporates natural light, with “spacious” waiting areas for guests to relax before boarding.
MSC Cruises stated that exclusive amenities are available for MSC Yacht Club guests, including a private lounge offering premium refreshments.
The terminal features 22 biometric E-gates for the completion of embarkation process, allowing guests to enter the gangway. As the onboarding process is carried out at terminal side, rather than on the vessel, guests can begin their holiday journey immediately.
Disembarkation is also stated to be streamlined, with an advanced baggage handling system in place to facilitate quick luggage collection.
In June 2023, MSC Cruises reached a long-term agreement with Finnish state-owned energy company Gasum for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for its new flagship, MSC Euribia.
Additionally, they have signed a letter of intent (LoI) to collaborate on the supply of liquefied synthetic gas (e-LNG) produced from renewable energy.
