Visayas Container Terminal (VCT), a unit of International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) in the Philippines has announced the commencement of operations of two new mobile harbour cranes (MHCs).
The introduction of these cranes is expected to bolster Iloilo port’s competitiveness as a key trade gateway for Western Visayas.

The two ESP.5 Gottwald MHCs, manufactured by Konecranes, have a 46m reach and a 100t lifting capacity.
They are expected to enhance VCT’s cargo handling capabilities, accommodating the growing demand for bulk, containerised, general, and project cargo.
The cranes are anticipated to streamline port operations, resulting in quicker vessel and truck turnaround times, better safety, and increased overall efficiency.
To ensure proficient operation of the new equipment, ICTSI has provided extensive training for VCT personnel in operations and maintenance of cranes.

By GlobalDataThe training took place at the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) and the South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) in Lae, Papua New Guinea.
ICTSI executive vice-president Christian Gonzalez said: “These new cranes, the largest and most modern in Panay Island, represent our commitment to pursue a culture of efficiency and advancement.
“The flexibility offered by these MHCs will allow us to deliver an immense improvement in service to our clients. By providing state-of-the-art resources, we are enabling our people to achieve results beyond the ordinary for the greater good of our stakeholders and the local economy.”
The acquisition of the new MHCs is part of a broader modernisation strategy for VCT. In addition to the cranes, VCT has invested in new reach stackers, prime movers, trailers and empty container handlers.
Additionally, the terminal is expanding its bulk operations with the addition of bagging machines, clamshells, and mobile equipment, and is constructing additional reefer stacks to cater to the rising demand for refrigerated cargo.
In January this year, ICTSI was granted a 25-year concession by the Philippine Ports Authority to operate and develop the Iloilo port into a modern gateway for trade.
ICTSI has recently announced the commencement of operations at the East Java Multipurpose Terminal (EJMT) located in Lamongan Regency, Indonesia.
