Damen Yichang Shipyard in China has held a keel-laying ceremony for an LNG bunker vessel for the new energy brand Elenger, previously known as Eesti Gaas.
Damen Yichang Shipyard said that the new vessel will have a capacity of 6,000m³. It will play a key role in supporting the adoption of LNG by providing a ship-to-ship distribution service for all kinds of LNG vessels in the Baltic region.
The sea testing of the LNG bunker vessel is expected to begin in early-2020. Subsequently, the ship will reach Estonia mid-next year and will start serving LNG clients towards the end of the year.
The LNG tanker will carry out bunker activities at designated locations both in and outside ports.
At present, Elenger uses road tankers to refuel Tallink’s LNG-powered Megastar ferry, which runs between Tallinn and Helsinki.
Damen Yichang Shipyard sales manager Peter Anssems said that the newbuilding project is an excellent example of the cooperation between China and Europe and underlines the capabilities that Damen Yichang Shipyard has to offer as a builder of sophisticated vessels both for its domestic and export markets.

In October 2018, Damen Yichang Shipyard was awarded a contract by Estonia-based energy company Eesti Gaas for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker vessel.
The 99.80m-long and 18.60m-wide short-sea vessel will provide ship-to-ship LNG bunkering services to the LNG-fuelled vessels operating in the North-East region of the Baltic Sea and onshore clients.
