The companies will develop digital capabilities to cut down the carbon footprint of LNGCs and floating storage and regasification units (FRSUs).
They will carry out numerous projects, starting with deploying a common data management platform and developing a maritime digital twin and digital processing models which will promote operational efficiency.
The partnership will combine Vessel Insight, Kongsberg Digital’s data infrastructure technology, and Alpha Ori’s SMARTShip digital applications, and draw on BW’s operational proficiency to pilot a maritime digital twin and a real-time decision support system.
To be designed for the BW Magna FSRU, the maritime digital twin will use expert applications from Alpha Ori, the Vessel Insight data infrastructure and Kongsberg Digital’s Kognifai digital platform and maritime simulators.
Kongsberg Digital stated that a pilot project has already been set up for the development and trials of a maritime digital twin.
In addition, Kongsberg Digital and Alpha Ori have decided to merge Vessel Insight with Alpha Ori applications, expanding the integrated services to clients globally.
This will provide complete access to all Alpha Ori applications for Vessel Insight customers while Kongsberg Digital will provide complete, contextualised data from ships.
Kongsberg Digital president Hege Skryseth said: “The goal of this partnership is to lead the way in the industry through reducing emissions and proving operational excellence through digitalisation.”
The partners will initiate the projects immediately.
BW LNG IT and digitalisation head Harald Martin Myhre added: “We’re confident that these digitalisation initiatives will help close the information gap between ship and shore and empower us to be more data-driven in our decision making.
“By supplementing our extensive operational experience with well-managed data and algorithms we can create more value for all our stakeholders, increasing the safety of operations, reducing emissions to the environment and reducing operating costs for our customers.”
Last month, Kongsberg Digital secured a contract from the Panama Canal Authority to deliver simulators for multi-vessel training scenarios.
