Kongsberg Digital has agreed to partner with BunkerMetric to include its BunkerPlanner software application in the Kognifai Marketplace.
BunkerPlanner has been created for ship operators to make optimal bunker purchasing decisions by helping them to select ports, volume and fuel grade for bunkering.
This application reduces costs while considering relevant operational, commercial and regulatory aspects.
BunkerPlanner can provide a cost savings of 2-4% on bunker operations to Vessel Insight subscribers, with a potential annual savings of $20-80,000 per ship.
Kongsberg Digital Vessel Insight senior vice-president Eirik Næsje said: “Bunker planning is a complex puzzle for shipowners, especially when navigating all operational, commercial and regulatory constraints.
“Having an application to incorporate these factors in the decision-making process can improve efficiency and reduce the risk of Vessel Insight subscribers making the wrong choice for bunkering.”
This application can merge with Kognifai and other applicable data sources, including port call costs and the daily bunker market.
It can prepare bunkering plans for ships individually on the basis of calculations made from contextualised information.
Through regular emails, it sends its recommendations to the fleet, displaying vessels’ priority for bunkering.
Furthermore, clients can evaluate plan details, access information on prices and run new scenarios at any time by using a web interface.
BunkerPlanner provides recommendations after considering factors, such as commingling of fuels on board, time charter costs compared to costs for speeding up when choosing bunker ports, congestion in bunker ports and quarantine constraints.
BunkerMetric CEO Christian Plum said: “The complexities of buying and burning bunkers are ever-growing, with new rules such as ECA Zones, 0.5% Sulphur limit and no-scrubber zones coming into force in the last few years. In the future, we will see EEXI, CII and wider adoption of new fuel types.
“Operators and bunker buyers navigating in this market need good tools such as those as provided by BunkerPlanner, based on good data provided by Kongsberg.”
Last week, Sweden-based Marinvest signed a contract for the deployment of Kongsberg Digital’s Vessel Insight on five of its oil and chemical tankers.
