Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract worth more than $25m to supply a comprehensive suite of electrical, control, safety and propulsion systems for the Golar Mk2 floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel project.
The technology will be central to the conversion of Golar’s LNG tanker vessel, Fuji LNG, into an FLNG unit, a process that includes extending the vessel by 100m.
Kongsberg will deliver two UUC305 azimuth thrusters, electrical systems and an advanced integrated control and safety system (ICSS).
Kongsberg Maritime’s ICSS will integrate operational aspects of the FLNG unit, including energy management and power distribution, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
The system’s safety features include the fire and gas detection system, the emergency shutdown system and the process shutdown system.
Equipped with a heading control system, the azimuth thrusters allow for maintaining the vessel’s heading without the need for full dynamic positioning capabilities. This is particularly beneficial for FLNG operations.

By GlobalDataGolar MK II FLNG project manager Morten Skjong stated: “Kongsberg Maritime has been a trusted supplier to Golar LNG’s floating portfolio for decades and we are pleased to have them as a key provider for our next generation floating LNG production unit, the MK II FLNG.
“As an FLNG operator that takes on 20-plus year contracts, Golar is reliant on quality solutions not only for the project execution phase but products and services such as Kongsberg’s that will serve us reliably during the full term of the operations contract.”
The FLNG vessel’s rebuild is taking place at the CIMC Raffles shipyard in Yantai, China, with Black & Veatch delivering the topside LNG process plant.
Kongsberg Maritime offshore production units sales vice president Vegard Skår said: “We have worked closely with Golar from the early design phase of this complex project, securing a large scope of supply for their Mk2 vessel. The systems to be delivered are all critical components in the safe and reliable operation of an FLNG vessel.”
Kongsberg Maritime was recently selected to design and deliver an integrated equipment package for six hybrid platform supply vessels (PSVs) in Brazil for Dutch-Brazilian maritime group Compagnie Maritime Monegasque (CMM).
In October 2024, Kongsberg Maritime secured a contract for a new fleet of ten PSVs for Greek shipowner, Capital Offshore.
