Cargotec subsidiary Kalmar has won a contract to upgrade four ZPMC ship-to-shore (STS) cranes at the Eurogate Tanger container terminal in Morocco.
The modernisation of cranes will enable Eurogate Tanger, located on the Strait of Gibraltar in Morocco, to manage large ships.
Due to its geostrategic location, Eurogate Tanger acts as a transhipment centre for the Western Mediterranean, Africa, and North and South America.
Kalmar Automation Solutions sales vice-president Eduardo Prat said: “Eurogate Tanger has been an important partner of ours for many years, so we are delighted to be able to help them future-proof their operations, ready for handling the next generation of mega-size vessels.”
Under the terms of the contract, Kalmar will plan, engineer and implement the whole project. The contractor will also increase the height of the four STS cranes by 11m and extend the booms by 6m.
Eurogate Tanger CEO Andrea Cervia said: “With this investment, which is the biggest since the commencement of operations in 2008, EGT will be ready from the second half of next year to accommodate the latest generation Ultra Large Container Ships with a capacity of 23,000 TEU, working up to 25 rows across.
