South Korea’s HMM has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to develop smart ship technology.
According to the MoU, HMM and SHI will partner for the research, development and innovation for smart ship solutions.
It covers the development of eco-friendly technologies for smart ships and technological competence associated with the digitalisation of ships.
HMM has implemented SHI-developed, advanced smart ship solution called SVESSEL.
The SVESSEL has been installed on five out of twelve 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) mega containerships that were delivered to HMM.
In April, HMM revealed the world’s largest containership HMM Algeciras in Geoge, South Korea.
