Geoquip Marine has announced the expansion of its fleet with the addition of the Geoquip Silvretta, a vessel undergoing a sustainable conversion.
Originally built as a platform supply vessel (PSV) by Green Yard Kleven, the vessel is now being converted in Norway into a geotechnical services platform for the offshore energy sector.
The conversion includes installing Geoquip’s drilling rig, the GMTR150, into the vessel, while the core propulsion and machinery will remain unchanged.
The GMTR150 rig is designed to reduce fuel consumption and ensure a low carbon footprint. It will enable the Geoquip Silvretta to support geotechnical site investigations under various sea conditions.
Upon completion of conversion by spring 2025, the vessel is slated to embark on a project in northern Europe to handle the region’s challenging metocean environments.
Geoquip incoming CEO Rune Olav Pedersen said: “Expanding our fleet with this new vessel, complete with our flagship GMTR150 drilling rig, gives Geoquip even more capacity to deliver high-quality site investigations in varied weather conditions.

By GlobalData“We’re also pleased to have awarded the conversion project to Green Yard, a full-service shipyard with sustainability high on their agenda.”
Green Yard will collaborate with the vessel’s original designer Marin Teknikk to customise the interior to support Geoquip’s international operations.
The upgrades will include crane modifications, a new moonpool, an expanded shelter deck, and enhanced office and meeting spaces, along with a newly constructed accommodation block.
Geoquip aims to reduce the vessel’s energy consumption by incorporating new LED lighting and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that utilise heat recovery.
The conversion process emphasises sustainability, with a plan to reuse and recertify as many components as possible.
Steel extracted during the moonpool installation will be recycled in Norway, and new components will be manufactured using steel sourced from Europe with a high recycled content.
Geoquip Board Director and Njord Partners co-founder Arvid Trolle said: “The addition of Geoquip Silvretta to the company’s existing fleet reflects the significant opportunities we are seeing in the buoyant offshore market.”
