Major shipbuilders in Europe have agreed to jointly develop and showcase a connected vessel platform under a project named Code Kilo.
The project will be carried out by Euroyards members Chantiers de l’Atlantique, Damen Shipyards Group, Meyer Werft, Fincantieri, Lürssen, Naval Group, and Navantia.
The project has also secured the support of the Shipyards’ and Maritime Equipment Association, SEA Europe.
To establish the platform, the partners will co-operate and engage with maritime stakeholders such as ship-owners, shipbuilders, suppliers and classification societies.
As part of the collaboration, stakeholders will work to harmonise data management solutions and standards across the shipping sector.
They will develop methods of using data generated from ship operations and performance and variables in equipment status and condition.

By GlobalDataThe project will aim to increase the opportunities to reuse, combine and gain values and insights from data provided by the status of equipment, ship operations and performance of the ship systems.
As a result, the initiative will enable the operator as well as yard and equipment suppliers to optimise their respective activities.
Enhancing the vessel digitalisation via fully fledged integration will allow the stakeholders to achieve sustainability and circularity goals at the core of the European maritime sector.
The European shipbuilders have agreed to apply their knowledge of physical system integration to improve digital integration.
The collaboration will result in the establishment of a base for future business opportunities in maritime internet of things, large data analytics and artificial intelligence.
