Disney Cruise Line will add four more ships to its fleet by 2031 as it continues its expansion plans and looks to continue launching cruises in new destinations.
The four newbuilds are being developed on top of the four ships currently being built for the Walt Disney Company subsidiary in Germany, taking its total fleet size to 13 vessels by the next decade.
Speaking at the company’s biennial D23 expo, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, said: “Expanding our fleet gives more people, in more parts of the world, the opportunity to experience a vacation at sea like only Disney can provide.”
The announcement comes amid a period of international expansion for the cruise line, which is set to operate its first services in Asia when it launches the Disney Adventure in Singapore in 2025, and also recently announced it would launch year-round cruises in Japan by 2029.
While the company did not reveal design details for the new ships and has not publicised shipyard agreements, it has frequently turned to Germany to build its vessels in the past, with Meyer Werft building several of its cruise ships including the Disney Treasure, scheduled to launch in December 2024.
The vessel is the second of Disney’s new larger “Wish-Class” ships which launched with the debut voyage of the 144,000t Disney Wish in 2022 and will include the Disney Destiny when it launches in 2025.
