DFDS, a Danish ferry company, has been announced as the preferred bidder for a 15-year contract to deliver both freight and passenger ferry services to Jersey in the Channel Islands starting from 28 March 2025.
This contract positions DFDS as a leading ferry operator in Europe and enables the company to expand its operations in the English Channel.

The current contract is held by Condor Ferries and is set to expire in March 2025.
DFDS, which already operates two routes between Dover, Calais, and Dunkirk, as well as a route between Newhaven and Dieppe, will disclose specific details about the new services, schedules, and vessels within the next two weeks.
The company will collaborate with Jersey’s local authorities, business organisations, ports, and communities to tailor the service for better travel experience.
It will also coordinate with the current operator and local authorities to support a seamless transition of services.

DFDS has a transport network across Europe, generating an annual revenue of DKK30bn ($4.22bn) and employing 17,000 full-time staff.
In April this year, DFDS agreed to design a hybrid-electric ferry for Channel Islands crossings as part of its bid to secure the new tender.
The company hired Tasmanian shipbuilder Incat to create a design for a 72m hybrid ferry, which could later be converted to fully electric.
