Jinling shipyard in China has secured a €200m ($238m) contract from Finnlines, a unit of Grimaldi Group, for the supply of three ro-ro hybrid vessels.

The 238m-long vessels will weigh 17,400t each and will have the capacity to carry 5,800 lane metres of cargo.

The ro-ro vessels will also feature a car deck area of 5,600m² and a weather deck with a cargo-carrying capacity of 300 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

Deliveries are scheduled to complete by 2021.

Aliança Navegação, the Brazilian subsidiary of Hamburg Süd, has placed an order with Rolls-Royce for the supply of MTU engines to power four tugboats.

The boats are currently under construction at Detroit Brasil Itajai shipyard in Brazil.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Abu Dhabi Ports have inked a 30-year concession agreement for the construction of a container terminal at Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“The new container terminal will increase the port’s handling capacity from 2.5 million TEUs to 8.5 million TEUs in five years.”

The agreement will see MSC investing AED4bn ($1.1bn) in the port through its Terminal Investments (TiL) unit.

The investment will be used to deepen berths to accommodate large cargo ships and acquire advanced cranes.

The new container terminal will increase the port’s handling capacity from 2.5 million TEUs to 8.5 million TEUs in five years.

Alfa Laval has secured two contracts from Polsteam and Nova Ship for the installation of its PureBallast 3 ballast water management systems (BWMS) on their cargo ships.

The latest deal brings the total number of BWMS systems to be installed on Polsteam vessels to 60.

The PureBallast 3 systems can handle a nominal flow rate of 1,000m³/h and a maximum flow rate of more than 2,000m³/h.

The ballast systems integrate an advanced UV reactor to offer a chemical-free solution.
