CMA CGM Group, a transportation and shipping company based in France, has partnered with American start-up Shone to develop artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for container ships.
The partnership allows Shone to access the vessels of CMA CMM and collect the data from devices installed on the ships. The collected data will be analysed and used to develop customised AI solutions required for the fleet.
The AI systems are intended to assist the on-board crew in making crucial decisions related to maritime safety and piloting.
Wilhelmsen Ship Management, a vessel management services provider based in Norway, has inked a five-year strategic agreement with Wärtsilä for the maintenance of exhaust gas cleaning systems on-board its three vessels.
The deal enables the vessels to meet the regulations of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and International Maritime Organization (IMO), in order to prevent pollution from ships.
Wärtsilä will conduct annual audits and safety tests in compliance with MARPOL regulations, while it will regulate the water monitoring system and continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS).

By GlobalDataFueLNG and Pavilion Gas have secured a S$6m ($4.5m) grant from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for the construction of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker vessels.
The fund will be equally divided among the two companies and will support the firms to build their respective ships.
To be based at the Port of Singapore, the vessels will serve the ocean-going LNG-fuelled vessels.
The delivery of the vessels is expected to take place in 2020.
Port of Brisbane (PBPL) and Carnival Australia have reached a commercial agreement to develop a A$158m ($120m) cruise terminal at the port.
Designated as Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT), the new terminal is expected to be operational by mid-2020.
The new terminal will accommodate Carnival Australia’s cruise brands, including P&O Cruises Australia, Princess Cruises, and Carnival Cruise Line.
