Q-LNG has selected the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to class a new articulated tug barge (ATB) that will be used to carry out liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering activities in North America.
The vessel is to be owned by Q-LNG and will be designed to carry 4,000m³ of LNG.

Construction work on the ATB is expected to begin at VT Halter Marine yard in Pascagoula, Mississippi, US, early next year.
The barge will be handled by US-based Harvey Gulf International Marine upon completion and will be chartered by Shell to supply necessary LNG fuel to cruise vessels across the Southeast Coast of the US.
The vessel will be developed to be efficient and manoeuvrable in order to allow efficient LNG bunkering to various customers.
It is also expected to expand the LNG supply chain and the advancement of use of LNG as a marine fuel across North America.
ABS chairman, president and CEO Christopher Wiernicki said: “This project represents another significant milestone for the region in the continued development of LNG infrastructure in North America, helping the maritime industry meet stricter emissions requirements.
“ABS is committed to working with all project stakeholders to support safety both during construction and operations.”
In addition, ABS is also classing a new LNG bunkering barge that is currently under construction at Conrad Orange Shipyard.
The vessel is scheduled for delivery next year and is expected to serve the North American region.
ABS currently provides guidance in LNG floating structures and systems via its Global Gas Solutions team, as well as gas fuel systems and equipment, gas carriers, and regulatory and statutory requirements.
