China’s Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard (CIMC Raffles) has received an order from UK-based shipping firm Zodiac Maritime for the construction of four dual-fuel pure car truck carriers (PCTCs).
The four PCTCs are expected to be delivered by CIMC Raffles in 2023.
As part of the contract, the shipping firm also has an option to buy additional ships in the coming years.
According to sources, the newbuilds will be designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI).
The 7,000CEU vessels will have a length of 199.9m and width of 38m.
The PCTCs will feature two sets of C-type liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks, which are projected to minimise CO₂ emissions.

“At the same time, based on this series vessels project, we hope to strengthen and widen our cooperation with diverse business opportunities.”
In July, CIMC Raffles won an engineering, procurement and construction contract from Sweden-based shipping company Wallenius Lines for six pure car carrier vessels.
These ships will be built at the company’s Longkou shipyard in the Chinese city of Yantai.
The initial contract included the first two ships as well as two options for extra vessels, which would include two ships each.
These new projects are part of CIMC Raffles’ efforts to research the potential of alternative fuels to reduce carbon emissions.
Zodiac Maritime, an international ship management firm, concentrates on the management of very large ore carriers (VLOCs), chemical tankers, capesize, panamax, handymax and handysize bulk carriers, container ships, crude tankers, product tankers, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers and PCTCs.
