CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company has secured Approval in Principle (AIP) certificates from China Classification Society (CCS) for two dual fuel ships.

These AIPs have been issued for the Honghu 3500TEU ammonia dual fuel container ship and Haijing 82000T methanol dual fuel bulk carrier.

The Honghu 3500TEU container ship, part of the Honghu SWAN series, has a large loading capacity and low fuel consumption, outperforming similar models by nearly 10% in daily fuel usage.

The Haiying 82000T methanol dual fuel bulk carrier is designed to comply with emerging regulations and can integrate various energy-saving technologies, including shaft-mounted generators and wind-assisted propulsion.

It offers multiple alternative fuel solutions.

CCS Guangzhou Branch deputy general manager Zhou Liwei presented the AIPs at a launch conference in Pudong, Shanghai

Over 200 representatives from various sectors, including shipowners, financial institutions, brokers, equipment manufacturers, and other classification societies, convened at this event.

Earlier in February 2023, CCS collaborated with SDTR Marine and Shanghai’s Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI) to develop an 85,000dwt ammonia-powered bulk carrier, a pioneering project in the sector.

A cloud certification ceremony was held for this world-first vessel, on behalf of the Chinese classification society CCSHQ that granted approval in principle (AIP) for the project.

The innovation underscores the potential of ammonia as a sustainable marine fuel in line with green emission reduction standards.
