Marine transportation services provider Algoma Central has taken ownership of the Algoma Innovator, a new vessel that will complement its Equinox 650′-class fleet of self-unloading dry-bulk lake freighters.
The new ship was delivered by the Uljanik d.d. shipyard in Croatia and has been designed for use in the river class business.
The new vessel comes with a forward-mounted boom that enables it to deliver cargo to a greater number of places, offering higher access and flexibility to customers.
Algoma president and CEO Ken Bloch Soerensen said: “Although we have taken delivery, we need to ensure conditions are optimal for the crew to sail home safely.
“We look forward to having the Algoma Innovator join our fleet for the 2018 season.
“The flexibility and efficiency of this vessel will advance Algoma further in the marine industry, allowing us to continually meet the needs of our customers.”

Algoma Innovator will be ready for the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in late March 2018 and is also expected to carry cargo during transit.
The Equinox Class vessels are noted to be more fuel efficient and have a smaller environmental footprint compared to other vessels.
Algoma Central operates a fleet of dry and liquid bulk carriers on the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Waterway in Canada, including self-unloading dry-bulk carriers, gearless dry bulk carriers and product tankers.
The company also owns ocean self-unloading dry-bulk vessels for operation in international waters.
