
Greek shipping firm Aegean Shipping Management has placed an additional order for the construction of a third Aframax tanker in China.
This comes after the company signed an agreement with the Chinese shipbuilder COSCO Heavy Industry for the construction of two plus one 114,000 dwt tankers on 30 September, 2020.
In addition, the duo signed a letter of intent (LOI) for the fourth vessel as well.
The deliveries of the four ships are scheduled between June 2022 and March 2023.
Aegean Shipping stated that after the completion of the latest order, the average age of its fleet will be 2.9 years.
As of now, Aegean Shipping has ordered a total of 12 vessels at Cosco Shipping in the last four years. After the newest order, Aegean fleet will expand to a total of 15 vessels.
The company also claimed that all its vessels are new-builds; not resales or second-hand ships.
To strengthen its “Green Fleet”, Aegean Shipping certifies all its vessels and new acquisitions with the highest eco-friendly class notations.
