ESA and One Sea to share autonomous shipping information
European Space Agency (ESA) and One Sea agreed to share knowledge on maritime digitalisation and autonomous shipping technology.
A memorandum of intent (MoI) covering future co-operation was signed by the two organisations in an industry alliance aiming to garner more information on autonomous ships.

Singapore MPA starts second phase of Tuas Megaport construction
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) started construction in the second phase of Tuas Megaport by installing the wharf’s first concrete structure.
The MPA is responsible for the development of the Tuas facility and has drawn a four-phased plan for the development of the port over 30 years.
In 2018, the authority awarded the Tuas Terminal Phase 2 reclamation project to Penta-Ocean Construction / Hyundai Engineering & Construction / Boskalis International BV (PHB) joint venture (JV).

Dublin Port files planning applications for €320m expansion
Dublin Port submitted a planning application for the second stage of its main expansion plan, known as MP2 Project.
The project is part of the port’s post-Brexit plan and was estimated to cost approximately €320m. It includes phased development within the existing port to accommodate predicted traffic to and from continental Europe.
State-owned Dublin Port Company is preparing detailed plans for the MP2 Project, which is part of the port’s Masterplan 2040.
The second stage of MP2 involves five important projects, including the development of a new ro-ro jetty, widening of an existing river berth, and redevelopment of a deepwater container berth.
UK to only allow orders of zero-emission ships from 2025
The UK Government announced that new ships ordered from 2025 must have zero-emission technologies if they are to be used on British waters.
Under plans to reduce maritime pollution set out in July, the government is aiming to have net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the first such commitment made by one of the G7 countries.
The clean maritime plan formed part of the Maritime 2050 government initiative, a long-term strategy setting out the future vision of the British maritime sector that was published in January.
A consultation will take place in 2020 to discuss how the transition to zero-emission shipping can be incentivised.

The company’s decision to announce redundancies of stevedores personnel nationwide came as a direct result of a drop in business since September last year.

Kerala’s Kochi Container Terminal to set up mobile scanner
The Custom Department is set to install mobile scanners to improve security measures at Kochi Container Terminal in Kerala, India.
The technology is also being introduced in order to prevent wrong declaration and the smuggling of goods in concealed formats.
Custom House Cochin customs commissioner Sumit Kumar told The New Indian Express that the deployment of mobile scanners is expected to improve the local risk management system.
Port of Los Angeles invites bids to develop cyber resilience centre
The City of Los Angeles Harbor Department invited companies to submit bids for the development of a cyber resilience centre for its city’s port.
In accordance with the request for proposals (RFP) issued by the department, qualified contractors will be required to design, install, operate and maintain the Port of Los Angeles’ planned centre.
The cyber resilience centre has been suggested in order to help mitigate a cyber incident risk that could interrupt cargo flow across the port, which is Southern California’s gateway to international commerce.
Spread across 7,500 acres, the Port of Los Angeles covers 43 miles of waterfront and features 27 cargo terminals.
