Quantum of the Seas is the first of three cruise ships in the Quantum-Class (formerly Project Sunshine) owned by Royal Caribbean. The ship was delivered to its owner in October 2014 while its sister vessels Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas were delivered in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
The cruise ship was constructed by Meyer Werft at its Papenburg shipyard in Germany. The steel-cutting ceremony for the cruise ship was held in February 2013.

Design details of Quantum of the Seas cruise ship
Quantum of the Seas measures 348m in length and 41m in width. The depth to keel below the surface is 8.5m. The ship has a gross tonnage capacity of 168,666t.
The cruise ship features 16 passenger decks with a top deck featuring a solarium for adults, an outdoor pool, a new indoor pool featuring an operable roof system and a H2O Zone kids’ aqua park. Other facilities aboard the vessel include a surf simulator measuring 40ft, a rock climbing wall measuring 40ft above the deck, a spa, a casino, and an outdoor movie screen measuring 220ft².
The vessel can accommodate a total of 4,905 guests and is fitted with 16 guest elevators.
Quantum of the Seas features
Quantum of the Seas offers major attractions, and provides facilities that are the first of their kind at sea, such as the North Star, a jewel-shaped glass capsule that rises 300ft above sea level from the top deck providing guests with 360° views of the sea.
Another pioneering facility is the RipCord by iFly incorporating skydiving wind tunnel technology in a flight chamber made of glass, which provides a skydiving style experience onboard.
Entertainment and activity venues include the SeaPlex, incorporating the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex with bumper cars, roller skating and circus facilities.
The Two70° is a multi-level great room accommodating 540 guests. It provides 270° panoramic sea views through vast floor-to-ceiling glass walls which cover almost three decks. A music hall with a capacity of 559 guests entertains the passengers with live performances, DJs, theme events, billiards and more. The Royal Theatre with a seating capacity of 1,300 seats is a state-of-the-art space designed with the latest technology to create a perfect performance venue.
The Dynamic Dining experience offers a unique dining approach where guests have complete control over their dining experience. 18 distinctive restaurants offer a variety of dining options including Main Dinning Reimagined, Next Level Signature Restaurants, and Laid Back Options Around-the-Clock.
The retail spaces at the heart of ship offer a collection of celebrated brands, luxury watches and fine jewellery. Other amenities include spas, fitness centres, pools, sports courts and jogging track.
Staterooms onboard Quantum of the Seas
The staterooms of the cruise ship are the largest in the company’s fleet, overtaking the size of the staterooms in its largest ship Oasis of the Seas by 9%. The cruise ship comprises 2,090 staterooms of which 1,571 are balcony staterooms, 148 are outside staterooms and 375 are virtual balcony staterooms.
Out of the overall staterooms, 34 staterooms are wheelchair accessible, 16 are family-connected staterooms, 16 are studio interior staterooms, and 12 are balcony studio staterooms.
Itineraries
The home port for the cruise ship is Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey. The vessel sails in the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
Propulsion
Quantum of the Seas is equipped with diesel-electric propulsion system powered by two Azipod XO thrusters with a rated capacity of 20.5MW and four bow thrusters with a power output of 3,500kW each.
The ship is capable of cruising at a speed of 22kt.
Contracts awarded
Wartsila Hamworthy was contracted in July 2012 to supply four hybrid scrubbers for the two ships in the Quantum-Class. The scrubbers enable the ships to reduce sulphur emissions and remove harmful particulates from the exhaust system, complying with the latest sulphur emission control limits.
The Two70° and Vistarama venues aboard Quantum of the Seas were designed by 5+design. The Azipod XO thrusters for the ship were provided by ABB. ABB also supplied a complete electrical system for the two new ships.
