A.P. Moller – Maersk entered into several partnerships during the research period related to decarbonization efforts and the development of new technology.
In one example the shipping company entered into a collaboration with Carbon Sink to accelerate the production of methanol fuels at a new facility in South Dakota. Maersk plans to buy the facility’s entire volume, and hold options on future production. In a similar move the company also entered into an agreement with Debo for the development of a bio-methanol project in China.
The company also entered an alliance with DP World to work on reducing carbon emissions at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, by deploying processes aimed at boosting quayside productivity, and encouraging quicker gate turnaround times. The project will also provide access to real-time data to facilitate more efficient supply chain planning.
The company also expanded its business in China becoming the first foreign carrier to carry out an international cargo relay in the country.
In South Asia there was another first as Maersk moved containerized cargo shipments between India and Bangladesh using inland waterways, the first time such an exercise had been completed.
Finally, in Oman the company expanded its Port of Call network with the addition of Khazaen Dry Port (KDP).
